This paper introduces the concepts of spatial analysis functions of GIS briefly, and analyses the spatial analysis function of the application in urban planning specifically. How to apply the GIS spatial analysis function in the different urban planning field is demonstrated in the paper, which also gives the direction of the future application of GIS science and technology in urban planning.
